From Inspector Jacob Kishter:
At approximately 3:03 PM, an altercation occurred on the Metro between two black male subjects. As the two subjects exited the west end of the Columbia Heights Metro, near 14th and Irving Streets, NW, one subject pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot the other male in the lower leg. As a result of the gunfire, a second non-involved adult male was grazed on the leg. Both victims were transported in stable condition to area hospitals for treatment.

Channel 7 has some details on what brought this about. Their source seems to be Jim Graham, of course:
A fight among youths attending an orientation for the District's summer jobs program precipiated a shooting outside the Columbia Heights Metro Station, ABC 7 News has learned. Ward 1 Councilman Jim Graham says about 2,500 youths had gathered at the D.C. Convention center for an orientation Thursday. The meeting got out of hand, and police confiscated a revolver and brass knuckles from youths there, Graham said.
About ten young people boarded Metro at the Convention Center, and a fight broke out on the train, Graham said.
