A first for the Wonderland

Not wanting to stop celebrating the long weekend just yet, your bloggers stopped by the Wonderland around 12:30 am last night only to find a horrible, horrible thing. A line. To get into the Wonderland.

Now, repeat those last two sentences and give your best WTF face.

Apparently the bar was at capacity and making people wait outside to get in. This combined with the new seating rule for the beer garden is making the place lose some of its dive-y charm. Anyone knows the reason why for these new changes? Did you actually wait in line on Sunday? Leave a comment below.

i have a policy against standing in line for a bar. (unless its just slow-moving id checks...i won't wait for my presence to become fire-safe.)

but, i haven't been over there in awhile - what's the new garden policy?

Whats the new beer garden policy? I've been there quite a bit lately and have been unaware of it.

On Saturday night there was a sign posted at the beer garden door saying that entrance is permitted to capacity seating only. There was an employee at the door not allowing anyone out there because there were no more seats available. However after midnight they did allow smokers to sit on the benches which hasn't been the case for a while.

Three day weekends are weird. Red Derby was packed as well.

People have been complaining about Wonderland losing it's dive-y charm for half a decade... but the neighborhood around it has been changing even faster, so there were always new people who still thought it was a charming dive. But I'd say that anywhere that has cabs waiting outside at 1:00am isn't a dive bar.

A few weekends ago Wonderland got raided by the fire marshall for being over capacity. They have been enforcing the occupancy rule ever since.

I think they should have a new rule: No bridge and tunnel. That will shrink the line and return the Wonderland to it's neighborhood dive bar glory. NO MORE NOVA!

that place hasnt even been opened 5 years at all. much less having people complain that it has changed so much so fast by then.

I waited in line to get to the Wonderland Saturday night, and the line moved pretty fast and it was nice to be able to have a seat when I got in. But seriously, you people can have a blog promoting "The Heights Life," then complain that word has gotten out on your favorite dive bar.
